Then Jesus said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self? If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels."

4. Devotional Comments

The song calls us to be "on fire" for God. Being "on fire" means to be excited and unashamed about serving God. Many times Christians can become cold about God and embarrased about being one of God's children. But Jesus wasn't ashamed about anything. In fact, Jesus went to the cross for you and for me. Jesus was bold - Jesus was on fire! How about you?

Jesus has the power to move us from shame and embarrassment to become filled with God's Spirit. But we have to open ourselves to it. We need to follow Christ's example and listen to him call to us. Christ has a mission for you - to show with your life that God's love is real and for everyone. Are you ready?

Are you "on fire" for God? Are you excited about being one of Jesus' followers? Why or why not?
How can you become more moved to follow Christ? What's in the way that you need to take care of?

6. Closing Prayer
Dear God, thank you for calling me your child and never being ashamed of me. Even when I disappoint you or let you down - you still love me. Help me to follow your will and mission for my life. Help me to discover what that is. Give me the power of your Spirit to be a raging fire for you in my school. I want people to know your love through me. Amen
